I wanted to take a fresh spin on the classic tale The Night Before Christmas—because even the tiniest creatures deserve a little holiday magic! In this illustration, our sleepy little mouse is tucked snugly into a matchbox bed, with sugar plum fairies dancing through his dreams. He’s left a plate of gingerbread cookies and a cup of milk on his spool nightstand.

While the mouse snoozes peacefully, Santa is hard at work, quietly leaving presents right outside the mouse’s cozy wall hole. The whole scene is wrapped up with mistletoe, adding an extra touch of holiday cheer. I really had fun imagining what this little guy’s home might look like and bringing all the tiny details to life—because creating those little worlds for characters to live in is one of my favorite parts of illustration!
